Are you sitting down? Good.
Coming soon to your computer, you will soon be able to download high-definition episodes of Doctor Who from P2P.
Legally. For Free.
The press release (PDF):
Palo Alto, Calif. – Dec. 19, 2006 — Azureus, the company behind one of the most popular Internet applications for the distribution of large files, today announced a content partnership with BBC Worldwide, the first ever peer-to-peer (P2P) distribution partnership for the network. The deal signifies the company’s commitment to further provide compelling entertainment content for its users. Azureus will offer popular, high-resolution British comedies and dramas from BBC Worldwide on its new digital media platform, currently code named Zudeo (www.zudeo.com). Under the terms of the agreement, BBC Worldwide will license international hit television series to U.S. users of the service, including Red Dwarf, Strange and Invasion Earth, debuting via broadband for the first time in the U.S. Other titles include International Emmy® award-winning, Little Britain, Doctor Who, Fawlty Towers (starring John Cleese of Monty Python), Coupling, Keeping Up Appearances, League of Gentlemen and Ideal among others. Additional content partnerships are expected to be announced in the coming weeks. That sound you just heard was my head exploding. Could this really be a major media company giving away its overwhelmingly awesome content for nothing to us poor colonials? I get to see the Doctor and Rose for naught but the bandwidth?!?!? Excuse me; I need a moment.
Hmmm, let's see:
- I've had two blogs and a Livejournal, which I've used most of the time to piss and moan about politics and tech stuff and play meme games.
- I've had two of my stories appear on a well-known science fiction website.
- I have a large cache of pictures on Flickr, some of which are actually decent.
- I have a podcast.
- I've even loaded a few vids on YouTube.
I'm celebrating by going to sleep now.
